One of the verses that I've memorized is Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." I think we all agree that "trust" is very important in any relationship. Without trust, relationships fall apart. Trust is especially essential in our relationship with God. Satan loves to make people doubt God and His Word. The two verses above show us Who to trust, how to trust, and the promise/result.
"Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God." (Psalm 20:7) "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me." ~Jesus (John 14:1) Trust in the Lord; accept no substitutes! He is always trustworthy, faithful, and unchangeable. His Word is forever true. His love is perfect. He is good all the time. Trust is a choice, not a feeling. "Trust" encompasses allegiance & submission, confidence & conviction, expectation & hope, faith & reliance.
How or how much should we trust God? God wants us to trust Him with all our heart (wholehearted commitment)! Do you trust God to meet all of your needs? Do you trust God when you're afraid, afflicted, overwhelmed, or persecuted? Do you trust God when your health is failing, your heart is hurting, or your loved ones are dying? Trust Him all your days and in all your ways! Do not lean on our own understanding (limited, unreliable human understanding which usually operates in ignorance because it lacks God's counsel). Remember that God sees the whole picture while we only see what's here and now.
"He will make your paths straight." It doesn't say, "He will make your paths easy or smooth" :). God loves you and wants the best for your life. He knows the best way to accomplish His plan and purpose for your life. He will guide you and strengthen you. "Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6)
Total trust and complete confidence lead to perfect peace! "You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal." Isaiah 26:3-4
